Fort Saskatchewan RCMP participate in National Impaired Driving Enforcement Day

RCMP Alberta – On May 19, 2018 members of the Fort Saskatchewan RCMP participated in the National Impaired Driving Enforcement Initiative. A total of 135 vehicle checks were completed at two different check stops located in the City of Fort Saskatchewan & Elk Island National Park.

As a result of the targeted enforcement, two drivers were charged with Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle, three violation tickets were issued under the Traffic Safety Act, one driver was arrested on an outstanding warrant, one driver was arrested for driving while suspended and had their vehicle seized for 30 days, and two Controlled Drug and Substance Investigations were launched with a small amount of drugs seized.

Impaired Driving continues to be the number one cause of criminal related death in Canada, yet every impaired driving crash is preventable. By planning ahead and reporting any suspected impaired drivers to police, you can play a role in keeping our roads safe.
