Fatal accident on Tunnel Mountain

RCMP Alberta – Yesterday at 12:30 p.m., Banff RCMP responded to assist Park Visitor Safety Services with a male who fell while climbing Tunnel Mountain, along Le Soulier (The Shoe) rock face and suffered fatal injuries.

At approximately 12:25 p.m., the 26-year-old male, of Banff, stumbled and fell approximately 25-40 metres along the rock face. Banff Emergency Services were contacted and the Park Visitor Safety responded. It was determined that the male was deceased as a result of the fall. Consequently, the Banff RCMP were dispatched to assist in his recovery. A second climber was also rescued from a nearby location, as this climber was stranded.

The name of the parties will not be released by the RCMP. This is not a criminal investigation and further information will not be provided.
