Ponoka RCMP investigate suspicious vehicle and follow up with several charges

RCMP Alberta – On July 29, the Ponoka RCMP responded to a complaint at a rural residence that an unknown male was non-responsive in a suspicious vehicle on the complainant’s property. RCMP attended, effected an arrest, recovered stolen property and laid charges.

At 5:24 p.m., the RCMP were dispatched. A homeowner had a concern about a vehicle on his property and called 911 for assistance. When RCMP arrived, the vehicle was idling and the driver was arrested. A search of the male and the vehicle, subsequent to arrest, revealed a small quantity of drugs, including what is believed to be fentanyl and two containers of pepper spray. The pepper spray was found to be within easy access of the suspect driver of the vehicle.

ATM theft from Petro Can in Athabasca

RCMP Alberta - On July 14th, 2018, at approximately 3:58 a.m., the Athabasca RCMP received a report of a break & enter into Jack's Petro Can on 28th Street in Athabasca, Alberta. According to witnesses, 3 individuals arrived at the back of the store in a tan coloured Ford diesel truck with a red tidy tank on the back. The suspects tied a tow rope to the door and pulled it opened. They then tied another rope to the ATM inside and pulled it out of the building, taking the cash box out of it, and then drove off heading East on Highway 55. Athabasca RCMP are asking for the public's assistance to locate those responsible.

Boyle RCMP Locate and Arrest Impaired Driver on a Farm Tractor

RCMP Alberta – On July 29 2018, at approximately 6:00 p.m., Boyle RCMP responded to a complaint of a male on a tractor causing property damage to a golf course just south of Wandering River, Alberta. The tractor fled the scene prior to Police arriving. Police searched the area and located the male suspect and the tractor.

Fatal ultrlight plane crash near Grande Prairie

RCMP Alberta - At 2:03 p.m. today the RCMP responded to a plane crash involving a basic ultralight plane that occurred east of Grande Prairie near Range Road 52.. Attending EMS pronounced the 43-year-old male pilot, from Saskatchewan, deceased.

There were no other occupants in the plane.

No information will be provided by the RCMP in relation to the cause of the crash. Transportation Safety Board of Canada has carriage of the investigation.

Fatal plane crash near Black Diamond

RCMP Alberta – Turner Valley RCMP are working with the Transportation Safety Board of Canada to investigate a plane crash which resulted in the death of one adult male.

Milk River RCMP respond to fatal residence fire

RCMP Alberta – The Milk River RCMP responded to a residential structure fire just after 10:00 p.m., on July 29. The RCMP attended with the Warner Fire Department, and EMS.

An adult male and female were located deceased inside the residence. There were determined to be no other occupants in the home.

This matter, including the cause of the fire, is still under investigation in cooperation with the Office of the Fire Commissioner, the Medical Examiner, RCMP specialty support units, and the Milk River RCMP.

Information about the deceased individuals will not be released by the RCMP.

Redwater RCMP investigate fatal motor vehicle collision

RCMP Alberta – The RCMP are continuing an investigation into a serious motor vehicle collision which occurred on July 27 and left one 41-year-old man from Caslan, Alberta deceased.

At approximately 11:10 p.m., the RCMP were dispatched to a two vehicle, head on collision on Highway 28 at Range Road 200. A pickup truck was westbound when it collided with a minivan that was eastbound.

RCMP Alberta – Following an alleged kidnapping which was reported on July 25, and the arrest of three suspects in Edmonton on July 26, the Wetaskiwin RCMP have laid charges, and are seeking the whereabouts of a fifth suspect.

On July 26, three suspects were taken into custody at a residence in Edmonton. Investigative members from Wetaskiwin General Investigation Section (GIS), Wetaskiwin Crime Reduction Unit and Maskwacis Community Response Unit worked together, along with Edmonton Police Service, to investigate the incident, and the suspects involved.

St. Albert chop shop dismantled

RCMP Alberta – The RCMP Central Alberta District Crime Reduction Unit (CRU) were engaged by St. Albert and Morinville RCMP Detachments to assist in arresting targeted offenders who were believed to be operating a ‘chop shop’. Four males have been arrested and several charges laid.

Strathcona County RCMP make arrests following attempted rural break-in

RCMP Alberta – The Strathcona County RCMP have two suspects in custody, have seized eight firearms and recovered a stolen vehicle following a call for assistance on July 26, 2018.

Agencies work together to catch and arrest prolific offender in Drayton Valley

RCMP Alberta - On July 23, 2018 at approximately 9:30 pm, Drayton Valley RCMP were on patrol when they received a tip of a wanted male on a stolen side by side. The tipster provided information on the direction of travel and approximate speed. The side by side entered a bush area where it became stuck, the male fled on foot through the bush. Members contacted the RCMP Police Dog Service and devised a plan to contain the area.

AHS taking steps to limit impact of targeted phishing scam

Alberta Health Services - Alberta Health Services (AHS) has been targeted by a phishing scam that has impacted a small number of AHS staff members. The accounts of about 20 staff members – used to access email and electronic pay records – appear to have been compromised as a result of this phishing scam.  AHS payroll control prevented any payroll deposits from being transferred fraudulently.

Grande Prairie RCMP Charge Vice Principal Following Sexual Assault Allegation

RCMP Alberta – On June 1, 2018 Grande Prairie RCMP received three reports from female students advising they had been touched inappropriately by the Vice Principal of their school.  It is alleged that the incidents took place during the latter part of the 2018 school year at a school within the Grande Prairie Public School District. Raymond Sylvester (55) of Grande Prairie was arrested on June 27, 2018 and is facing charges of sexual assault. He was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court in Grande Prairie on August 22, 2018.

Government of Alberta to expand bus lines pilot program for parts of rural Alberta

Mayor Ted Clugston, Beth Lewis, Premier Notley, MLA Wanner and Al Kemmere celebrate provincial funding of new rural bus pilot projects.
On July 25 the Government of Alberta announced a $700,000 expansion of a pilot program for new bus lines for rural Albertans living along the Medicine Hat/Lethbridge Highway 3 corridor and in Red Deer County. The new Medicine Hat/Lethbridge shuttle bus project "will connect 12 communities across the region, providing public transportation to 27,700 people who currently have no transit access." A new bus route connecting the City of Red Deer with Springbrook, Penhold and Innisfail is also receiving $700,000 from the province "to offer service for 11,000 local residents who currently have no public transportation." More than 200,000 people live in the two regions being served by the new bus projects.

Busy day for Cochrane RCMP

RCMP Alberta - On July 25 at approximately 2:00 am the Cochrane RCMP were alerted to a suspicious vehicle in the River Heights area of Cochrane. The occupants of the vehicle were observed to be hanging out their windows, checking the door handles, of vehicles parked on the road. Police patrols of the area located the suspicious vehicle, which then fled as they initiated a traffic stop. The suspicious vehicle was located a short time later unoccupied.

Wetaskiwin RCMP respond to kidnapping with firearm

RCMP Alberta - On July 25 Wetaskiwin RCMP responded to an injured female at the Wetaskiwin Car and Truck Wash. It was reported the female was hiding inside of a maintenance room alleging she had been kidnapped and attacked by someone with a firearm.  Police determined that the female had been held inside a vehicle trunk of a Ford Fusion and escaped at the car wash. The vehicle fled the scene in an unknown direction. RCMP did not locate the vehicle or the suspects at that time.

Stony Plain/Spruce Grove/Enoch RCMP Search Warrant Results in Arrests

RCMP Alberta – On July 18, 2018 at 5:13 P.M., Stony Plain/Spruce Grove/Enoch RCMP received a complaint regarding a theft of some items from a storage locker located in Spruce Grove, Alberta. The incident occurred sometime within the previous 2 weeks.  Items missing included personal items and five fully restored vintage motorcycles with a value of approximately $25,000.00.

RCMP Alberta - On July 23, 2018, at about 5:00pm, valuables were stolen from secured lockers at the Beaumont Aqua-Fit Centre. Beaumont RCMP is requesting the public's assistance in identifying the female pictured above.

Fort Saskatchewan RCMP seeking public information about vehicle fire

RCMP Alberta – On July 24, the Fort Saskatchewan RCMP responded with Fort Saskatchewan Fire Department to a vehicle fire on Allard Way. The RCMP is seeking assistance from anyone who may have witnessed anything or have surveillance cameras on residences in the area.

Suspicious Male Tries to Enter Cochrane Home

RCMP Alberta – On June 21, 2018 at approximately 10:30 p.m the Cochrane RCMP responded to a complaint of a suspicious male in the rural area of Cochrane near Twp Rd 244. The male rang the door bell and when the homeowner opened the door the male tried to push past the homeowner to enter the home. When the homeowners’ wife descended the stairs, the male departed rapidly from the home in a dark coloured car. Upon further investigation it was determined that the male had also entered the garage and rummaged through two of their vehicles. The male is described as native with a medium complexion, 5’10” tall and approximately 175 lbs with a full head of hair that was cut short. A composite sketch was done by an RCMP composite sketch artist, and is attached to this email.

Man charged after gas incident in Grande Prairie

RCMP Alberta – On July 18, 2018 Grande Prairie RCMP and the Grande Prairie Fire Department responded to a complaint of a natural gas leak at a residence in the Ivy Lake Estates area. Gas to the residence was quickly turned off to ensure safety to the community. Further investigation indicated that a male in the residence had cut the gas line and was threatening to cause an explosion. Police entered the residence and arrested the male without further incident.

Truck lands in Clearwater River, driver deceased

RCMP Alberta – Early this morning, Rocky Mountain House RCMP responded to an incident where a truck plummeted over an embankment and landed in the Clearwater River. The RCMP, with the assistance of Rocky Mountain House Search and Rescue, Fire Rescue and special tow trucks have all worked together to recover the truck and the deceased driver.

Strathcona RCMP make arrest and recover cash following bank robbery

RCMP Alberta – The Strathcona County RCMP have one male in custody following a bank robbery which occurred earlier today at a Scotiabank. Civilian witnesses were instrumental in the successful identification and arrest of the suspect.

Cochrane RCMP arrest 2 trespassers and lay numerous charges

RCMP Alberta - On July 24 at approximately 11:00 am the Cochrane RCMP responded to a report of a suspicious male and female trespassing on property along the Grand Valley Road. The property owner interrupted a male and female rummaging through his vehicle in an attempt to steal it. The property owner called the RCMP immediately. The suspects ultimately got lost on the property and were unable to find a way out. The Cochrane RCMP along with the assistance of the RCMP Police Dog Services located the individuals a short time later. A short pursuit occurred, which resulted in one police vehicle being damaged and one police officer sustaining minor injuries.

Two Edmonton bars fined for overcrowding

City of Edmonton - Two Edmonton bars have been convicted and fined for overcrowding under the Alberta Fire Code and Alberta Safety Codes Act.  On July 17, 2018, Nyala Lounge, located at 98 Street and 108 Avenue, pleaded guilty to a charge of overcrowding and received a fine of $3,000. The bar’s owner Mulugeta Tesfay was also fined $2,000. The charges are related to an incident of overcrowding on March 5, 2017. On May 14, 2018, Hudsons on Whyte Ltd pleaded guilty to overcrowding and received a $7,000 fine. The charges are related to overcrowding during an inspection on an Oilers playoff night on April 12, 2017.

Climber Falls to his Death near Kananaskis

RCMP Alberta - On July 21, 2018 RCMP responded to a back country rescue at Mt Lipsett in Kananaskis Country. It was reported that a male climber had fallen approximately 200 ft and was unconscious. When emergency services arrived on scene the man had succumbed to his injuries. The male, a 65 year old from British Columbia, was an experienced climber who was climbing with another experienced climber when he fell.

Single vehicle rollover near Blackfalds , 4 seriously injured

RCMP Alberta - On July 18, 2018 shortly after 8 pm on a rural road south of Hwy 11A Blackfalds RCMP responded to a single vehicle rollover. The four occupants of the vehicle were seriously injured with possible life threatening injuries. Some of the occupants were airlifted to Edmonton for treatment.

Fatal officer-involved shooting at Frog Lake First Nation

 RCMP Alberta – The Elk Point RCMP were called to an incident July 19, 2018 that led to the discharge of a police firearm which fatally injured one male.
At approximately 10:00 a.m., RCMP members attempted to arrest a suspect at a rural residence on the Frog Lake First Nation. A standoff followed that continued for several hours despite numerous attempts at establishing contact through an RCMP negotiator. Late in the evening, a confrontation occurred which resulted in members discharging firearms.

Jasper RCMP seek public assistance to identify fraud suspects

RCMP Alberta – On July 18, 2018, an unknown male and female suspect used a stolen credit card to purchase goods at two separate retail outlets totalling over $2000.  The suspects were captured on video surveillance and Jasper RCMP are seeking the public’s assistance to identify those responsible.

- On Saturday, July 14, 2018 at approximately 8:10 a.m., a woman entered the St. Albert Superstore and began selecting merchandise which she put in a shopping cart. At approximately 9:15 a.m., this woman left the store with a full shopping cart of merchandise that she had not paid for. She left the store parking lot in a white pickup truck.

Hanna RCMP seek public assistance in Stolen ATV investigation

RCMP Alberta - Hanna RCMP are looking for public's assistance in obtaining information regarding a theft that occurred on the night of July 7 2018, where two (2) ATV's were stolen from the industrial area in Hanna.  The ATV's are a 2018 John Deere XUV 835R and a 2018 John Deere XUV 835M.

Happy ending for empty canoe story

RCMP Alberta - On July 20, 2018 at approximately 4:40 pm, Cochrane RCMP were called to the Bow River after receiving a report of an unattended canoe floating down river and were concerned about the person or persons who may have been capsized. Fire/Rescue, Fish and Wildlife and RCMP completed a thorough search of the area by boat while STARS conducted a search by air. After an exhaustive search of the area, emergency services were satisfied that no one was in distress in the immediate area and the search was called off.

The owner of the canoe has contacted RCMP after seeing ta previous news release and advised that he was thrown from his canoe due to the strong tide and he is currently home and safe.

Raymond RCMP seek suspect who killed kitten by throwing it out of moving vehicle

RCMP Alberta - Raymond RCMP is seeking the public's assistance in regards to an incident that took place at the intersection of Highway 4 and Highway 845. On July 20, 2018 at approximately 5 pm RCMP received a complaint advising that a male subject in a white newer model truck, travelling south on Highway 4, opened his driver side window and threw out a black kitten. The kitten, unfortunately, was struck by another southbound vehicle and is deceased.

Raymond RCMP are asking anyone who witnessed this incident to please contact the Detachment in hopes that the individual responsible will be identified.

Orphaned Black Bears return to Banff National Park

Parks Canada - Parks Canada is pleased to confirm that three black bear cubs, originally found in the Vermilion Lakes washroom in April 2017, have been returned to Banff National Park. The three orphans, now yearlings, are healthy and free in the backcountry of Banff.

Gasoline Alley access changes during construction

Government of Alberta -
As construction continues on the Gaetz Avenue/Highway 2 interchange in Red Deer, the service road west of Gasoline Alley will close the week of July 23, weather permitting. This is to enable work on additional lanes required for the project.  The permanent closure of the service road, located parallel to southbound Highway 2, includes the removal of the off-ramps and installation of physical barriers.

Airdrie man charged following weapons seizure

Canada Border Services Agency/RCMP - The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) announced today the details of a joint investigation related to unlawful importation of weapons.

On July 10, CBSA officers from the Calgary Commercial team intercepted a parcel from Hong Kong declared as flashlights. Upon further examination, officers found six conducted energy weapons (similar to a TASER), which are prohibited weapons in Canada. The information was referred to the RCMP for further investigation.

RCMP Alberta - Innisfail RCMP have laid charges in relation to the seizure of eight dogs from a room at the Bluebird hotel in Innisfail Alberta.

WAD RCMP Rural Crime Reduction Unit arrests two in stolen vehicle

RCMP Alberta – An adult male and female are facing charges after RCMP located the pair in a parked stolen vehicle last week.

On July 10, 2018 at approximately 10:30 a.m., the Western Alberta District Rural Crime Reduction Team was proactively patrolling in the area of 103 Avenue and 110 Street. Members located a parked stolen pickup truck in the Wal-Mart parking lot with occupants inside.

Barrhead RCMP arrest male after report of driving with balaclava

RCMP Alberta – On July 14, 2018 at approximately 2:30 p.m., Barrhead RCMP responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle in Lac Ste. Anne County. The vehicle was believed to be involved in a break and enter that occurred the same morning at a residence where a firearm and property was stolen.  A witness also reported seeing a lone occupant driving a truck wearing a balaclava on Highway 33.

RCMP Alberta - On Saturday July 14, 2018, Lloydminster RCMP started an investigation into a sexual assault that occurred between 10:00 and 11:00 p.m., on 75 Avenue North of Highway 16. The victim, an adult female sustained non life threatening injuries as a result of the assault.

The Lloydminster RCMP are asking for the public's assistance in identifying a suspect and a vehicle of interest in this investigation.

The man is described as being:
  • Caucasian
  • Late 20's to early 30's
  • About 6'0" feet tall
  • Balding

The vehicle is described as:
  • Older model car
  • White
  • Manitoba license plate
  • Front driver tire is a small spare tire
  • Dirt was on the vehicle

Beaumont B&E

RCMP Alberta - On July 19th, 2018 Beaumont RCMP received a report of Break and Enter to a residence and commit theft in the area of Montalet neighbourhood in Beaumont. Suspects pry open the front door of the residence and gained entry to the residence. Suspects stole three television sets that were mounted on the walls and various brands of expensive liquor bottles. The break and enter incident occurred between July 17 -19th 2018.

RCMP Thwart Horse and Lamb Theft - Animals Returned

RCMP Alberta - On July 15, 2018, a rural property owner reported to the RCMP – Sundre detachment that she came home earlier that afternoon to find that the chain on her gate to her property had been cut. She further stated that someone came onto her property, broke into her residence and several outbuildings and stole boxes of personal items, various animal feed, and dog kennels. While checking her property further, she learned that her dog, Siamese cat, a horse and five lambs were also stolen. 

Investigation of 2017 in-custody death concluded

Government of Alberta - On February 12, 2017 the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) was directed to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death of a 20-year-old man.
ASIRT was directed to investigate the death because it occurred in circumstances that met the general definition of an in-custody death, as it occurred during contact with police and while the residence was contained by police.

Barrhead RCMP charge male with multiple offences - camper and vehicle recovered

RCMP Alberta -
On July 11, 2018 a Westlock RCMP member who was assisting in Barrhead was at an intersection in downtown when a truck drove through a red light.

Police activated the emergency lights and followed the truck a short distance to an apartment parking lot where a male driver exited the vehicle and ran inside the complex. The male then exited the complex and was quickly arrested without incident.

The male was believed to be a suspect in a previous theft of vehicle investigation that occurred at Barrhead Ford on June 25, 2018.

The truck that was driven on the day of arrest was a separate vehicle that was reported stolen out of St. Albert on June 29, 2018. Further information led police to the Rotary Park in Barrhead where a camper that was previously reported stolen from Sherwood Park on June 30, 2018 was recovered.

Gas incident in Grande Prairie leads to arrest

RCMP Alberta – Grande Prairie RCMP and the Grande Prairie Fire Department responded to a complaint of a gas leak at a residence in the Ivy Lake Estates area. Gas had been turned off to the residence to ensure safety to the community.  One male at the residence has been arrested and the incident is still under investigation. The RCMP would like to thank the public's assistance and patience in this matter.

Red Deer RCMP investigate $26,000 tool theft

RCMP Alberta –
Red Deer RCMP are looking for public assistance to identify two men who broke into KMS Tools on Burnt Lake Drive in the early morning hours of July 16 and stole $26,000 worth of tools.

RCMP responded to the break-in within minutes, and determined that two men driving two trucks had broken in and stolen $26,000 worth of tools, mostly Milwaukee and Makita brands. Both suspects wore masks and gloves. Both trucks were seen departing the scene heading north toward Queen’s Industrial Park. The trucks are described as a Ford F150 crew cab and a F350 quad cab, both light coloured.

Innisfail RCMP seize eight dogs from hotel room

RCMP Alberta – Earlier today, Innisfail RCMP seized eight dogs following the earlier arrest of a female. The dogs were determined to be in distress and were taken to an animal rescue organization for their well-being. The RCMP are seeking public assistance in determining if any of the dogs may have been recently stolen.

Attempted B&E to pub in Redcliff

RCMP Alberta - On July 17th, 2018 Redcliff RCMP Detachment received a complaint of a mischief and attempted break and enter to the Whose on Third pub situated at 222 Broadway East in Redcliff.  Suspect(s) attempted to pry open the front door in an attempt to gain entry into the building. No entry was gained at this time. Police believe the incident occurred between the hours of 3:00 am and 8:00 am this morning.

Drumheller RCMP advise public of “gifting cloud” scheme

RCMP Alberta - Drumheller RCMP are warning the public about a recent increase in local women being invited to attend 'gifting cloud' or 'pay-it-forward cloud' events, also known as 'gifting circles'.  The concept re-emerges every few years, frequently changing names due to the stigmas that are associated with the previous scheme.

The clouds essentially promise that if you invest a sum of $5000 and recruit two to six more people who are willing to invest, you will receive a 'gift' of $40000 somewhere between 4 months and 1 year later. The language used is designed to make the women (and occasionally men) believe that it's a 'community' which helps people be financially independent and/or contribute to society in a positive way, they will be made to feel important, being told that it is an anonymous, invite-only event.

Arrest in Red Deer homicide investigation

RCMP Alberta – RCMP Major Crimes South have made an arrest in the homicide of 26 year old Mathiang CHOL that occurred in March 2017.

Yesterday RCMP arrested 34 year old Gabriel Juma We AGOTIC of Red Deer in Calgary. AGOTIC has been charged with one count of Manslaughter contrary to the Criminal Code. He has been remanded into custody and is due in Red Deer Provincial Court on July 19.

As this matter is now before the courts no further information will be provided.

McLennan RCMP Respond to Fatal Motor Vehicle Collision

RCMP Alberta - On July 17, 2017 at approximately 3:15 pm McLennan RCMP responded to a fatal collision at township 792 and range road 201 where a gravel truck collided with an SUV. The male driver of the gravel truck was transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries while the adult male driver of the SUV was deceased on scene. The intersection will be closed for approximately two hours to allow for the collision analyst to complete his investigation.

Red Deer RCMP arrest driver after pedestrian hit and run

RCMP Alberta – Red Deer RCMP have arrested a woman after a pedestrian hit and run on 59 Avenue sent a male pedestrian to hospital with critical injuries this afternoon.

At 2 pm this afternoon, RCMP responded to a report of a pedestrian hit and run in a convenience store parking lot at 6830 59 Avenue in Red Deer. A 45 year old male pedestrian was struck by a Dodge Caravan that then fled the scene. Red Deer Emergency Services attended and transported the victim to hospital with injuries that are believed to be critical. RCMP immediately began searching the area and located the suspect driver, a 54 year old woman, at her nearby residence. She was taken into custody without incident; the investigation is ongoing and criminal charges are pending.

RCMP do not have more information on the status of the victim’s injuries. An update will be issued with new information about the charges as the investigation continues and charges are sworn before the courts. Traffic was impacted on 59 Street but the scene has now been cleared.

Bassano RCMP arrest suspects after pursuit

RCMP Alberta – Two adult males and an adult female are facing several charges after leading RCMP on a pursuit through rural highways and farmers’ fields early this morning.

On July 17, 2018 at approximately 4:30 a.m., Bassano RCMP received a call of an alarm at a business in the hamlet of Hussar. On arrival it was determined that a break and enter had occurred where suspects removed the ATM from the building and fled.

Okotoks RCMP Investigate Fatal Motor Vehicle Collision

RCMP Alberta - On July 15th, 2018 at 3:30 pm Okotoks RCMP responded to a motor vehicle collision involving a motorcycle and SUV at the intersection of 552 Highway W and 274 Ave W in the MD of Foothills. The 65 year old male from Calgary who was the driver of the motorcycle was pronounced deceased at scene. The adult female driver of the SUV had been transported to hospital to seek assessment for any injuries.

RCMP Collision Analyst attended the scene and the investigation is continuing. Alcohol and drugs are not considered to be factors in this incident.

Fatal collision on Highway 2

RCMP Alberta - At approximately 9:40 am July 14, Claresholm RCMP and Fort Macleod RCMP responded to a single vehicle collision on Highway 2 near township road 120. A white courier van travelling northbound on Highway 2 entered the centre median and rolled several times.

The passenger of the van, a 25-year-old man from Calgary was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene as a result of his injuries. The driver, a 21-year-old female from Calgary was also ejected from the vehicle and was taken by ambulance to area hospital with serious but not life threatening injuries.

Claresholm RCMP, with the assistance of an RCMP collision analyst are continuing to investigate to determine the cause and any factors in the collision.

Cochrane RCMP Assist Capsized Boaters

RCMP Alberta – On July 14th, 2018 at about 9:45 pm, Cochrane RCMP and the Cochrane Fire Department received a complaint of a boat that was reported as sinking in Ghost Lake.

Upon arrival at the dock for Ghost Lake, the responding RCMP member was able to seek assistance from a good Samaritan and they located the boat that was in distress. There were ten people varying between the ages of 1 and 53 who had been aboard the boat and now in the water. All ten were successfully recovered from the water. After being pulled from the lake, a 15-year-old girl had gone unresponsive and the RCMP member was able to successfully administer chest compressions and revive the female.

All ten boaters were taken ashore, where they were seen to by the appropriate emergency services departments.

The Cochrane RCMP would like to acknowledge and thank the good Samaritan for their assistance and use of their boat. Without their assistance, the RCMP member would not have reached those in distress as fast as they had.

Helicopter Crash Along Sheep River

RCM{ Alberta - High River RCMP are on scene of a helicopter crash the took place on the shoreline of the Sheep River earlier today.

At approximately 5:30 pm July 15, Okotoks and High River RCMP responded to a report of an aircraft crashing on the shoreline of the Sheep River near the Davisburg Bridge on Highway 552 in the High River RCMP detachment area.

An ultra-light helicopter was flying along the Sheep River valley when it crashed. The crash was witnessed by fishermen on the river who called 911. The pilot was the only person on board the aircraft at the time of the crash and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

No further information is available at this time pending identification of the deceased. The investigation into the crash has been turned over to Transport Canada.

Wood Buffalo RCMP investigate fatal motor vehicle collision – Update

RCMP Alberta – On July 6, 2018 shortly before 6:00 p.m., Wood Buffalo RCMP responded to a report of a single motor vehicle rollover collision on Highway 881 near kilometre marker 215. The location of the collision is approximately 2 kilometres north of the Janvier turnoff, on the Fort McMurray side.

Tragically, the 69-year old male driver, of La Loche, Saskatchewan, died. There were two adult female passengers in the vehicle at the time of the collision. Hero and Phoenix Heli-Flight were the two helicopters that assisted in transporting the female passengers to the hospital this evening. Both female passengers, 56 and 58 years old, sustained serious but non-life threatening injuries, and are now in stable condition receiving medical treatment in hospital. The women are from Chard, Alberta. 

Thank you to everyone who patiently waited on Highway 881 while emergency crews were on scene. Travellers on the road were very understanding during this incident, which was greatly appreciated by all emergency crew members.

Our thoughts and sympathies go out to the family, friends, and all of the people who have been impacted by this tragedy. The identity of the vehicle occupants will not be released. Fort Saskatchewan RCMP name new Detachment Commander

RCMP Alberta – Chief Superintendent Shahin Mehdizadeh, District Commander for Central Alberta District, is pleased to announce that Staff Sergeant Mike McCauley has been promoted to the rank of Inspector and will be the new Officer in Charge of Fort Saskatchewan Detachment.

Mike has 16 years of service and has previously worked in British Columbia. His career started in Maple Ridge, BC where he worked in General Duty policing and GIS, and then promoted into a Road Supervisor position. S/Sgt McCauley transferred to Langley Detachment in Serious Crimes, and following that, the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team. Staff Sergeant McCauley was promoted to “K” Division’s Interview Assistance Team and then promoted to be the Operations NCO for Fort Saskatchewan Detachment. Most recently he has been fulfilling the duties of the acting Officer in Charge of Fort Saskatchewan Detachment.

As the permanent Officer in Charge, Staff Sergeant McCauley will focus on crime reduction, traffic safety and continued efforts to promote and develop strong ties between the RCMP and the community at large.

Eastern Alberta District Rural Crime Reduction Unit seizes ammunition and drugs

RCMP Alberta – The Alberta RCMP’s crime reduction strategy uses intelligence-led investigative tactics to target the repeat offenders who harm our communities the most.

On July 11, 2018, members of the RCMP Eastern Alberta District Rural Crime Reduction Unit (EADRCRU) conducted an intelligence-led operation in Saddle Lake to locate and arrest a wanted male from Athabasca on multiple outstanding warrants dating back to 2015 and St. Paul from earlier this year.

Lucas Marler (32) of Athabasca County, was found hiding in a basement of a residence in Saddle Lake and arrested without incident.

Also found at the property was a vehicle associated to him and other criminal offences. The vehicle was seized and a search warrant was executed which led to the seizure of a small quantity of drugs, drug paraphernalia, and ammunition inside.

Search warrant executed at Syndicate Motorcycle Club Red Deer Clubhouse

RCMP Alberta – Four people face charges including kidnapping, forcible confinement and drug charges after an investigation by Didsbury RCMP into an alleged home invasion and kidnapping that had ties to an outlaw motorcycle gang.

On June 17, an alleged kidnapping and assault occurred wherein three suspects abducted two adult victims from a location in Olds. The victims were driven in their own vehicle to the Syndicate Motorcycle Club Clubhouse in Red Deer where one of them was assaulted. They were released and left from the clubhouse.

AHS: Potential tuberculosis exposure no risk to general public

Alberta Health Services - On July 4 Alberta Health Services (AHS) hand-delivered notification letters to 55 individuals potentially exposed to a confirmed case of tuberculosis (TB) in the South Zone.  The letters include information on arrangements for standard TB assessment and screening and treatment, if required.  The exposures were contained, and there is not a risk to the general public.

Bonnyville RCMP charge two after drug trafficking investigation

RCMP Alberta - Bonnyville General Investigative Section (GIS) conducted a drug trafficking investigation with the assistance of Bonnyville and Cold Lake General Duty, GIS and Police Dog Services (PDS) and the Eastern Alberta District Rural Crime Unit (EADRCRU) in the Municipal District of Bonnyville.

Airdrie RCMP Seize Weapons, Drugs, and Stolen Property During Traffic Stop

RCMP Alberta - The Airdrie RCMP have charged a 26-year-old female from Penticton, BC with numerous charges including: possession of weapons, drugs, stolen property, and fake credit cards after a traffic stop along Yankee Valley Boulevard in Airdrie.

Beiseker RCMP investigate theft of vehicle from rural residence

RCMP Alberta - Last night at approximately 11:30 p.m., Beiseker RCMP responded to a report of a vehicle theft from a rural residence. The vehicle that was stolen had the keys in the ignition with the doors unlocked. One of the homeowners pursued their stolen vehicle in their own SUV while the other homeowner called police. The homeowner pursuing the stolen vehicle followed the vehicle down a side road off of Highway 9 where he was sideswiped by another truck and forced into the ditch. The homeowner’s vehicle sustained minor damage which extended along the passenger side of the vehicle. The homeowner was not injured during the incident.

Arrest made in Spruce Grove murder case

RCMP Alberta - On May 27, 2018 Spruce Grove RCMP investigated a report of a sudden death of a female at a residence in Spruce Grove.  Further information regarding the sudden death was received by police and an arrest was made on May 28, 2018.

Robert Brian Joyes (74) was arrested and charged with 2nd degree murder of his spouse Freda Joyes (74). He was remanded into custody and the matter is now before the courts.

Strathcona County RCMP investigate theft of ring from jewelry store

RCMP Alberta – Strathcona County RCMP are requesting the public’s assistance in gathering information on the following crime.  On May 2, 2018 at approximately 4:25 p.m. a men’s diamond ring was stolen from People’s Jewellers located in the Sherwood Park Mall. A male was trying on various jewelry inside the store when he grabbed a ring from the clerk and ran off.

High River RCMP seek public's assistance in B&E case

RCMP Alberta - On Sunday July 1st, 2018 High River RCMP were dispatched to a commercial break and enter.

Sometime before midnight on Sunday July 1st, a commercial complex located on 1 St SW near 6 Ave SW was the victim of a break and enter. An unknown number of individuals gained entry to the business before leaving out the back alley door after the alarm sounded. It is unknown whether they departed on foot or in a vehicle.

Airdrie Rural RCMP Lay 94 Charges After Locating Suspicious Vehicle

RCMP Alberta - The Airdrie Rural RCMP have formally charged three suspects who were arrested after RCMP responded to a suspicious vehicle complaint along Big Hill Springs Road in Rocky View County.

Lac La Biche RCMP arrest five after robbery at gas station

RCMP Alberta - Crime reduction units rely on intelligence gathering to identify crime trends, primarily in hotspots, target repeat offenders and disrupt criminal activity in communities across the province.

In the early morning of June 27, 2018, Lac La Biche RCMP Detachment responded to a report of a robbery that took place at a gas station in Lac La Biche. RCMP members conducted an initial investigation and were able to identify suspects in the robbery. The Eastern Alberta District Rural Crime Reduction Unit (EADRCRU) were requested to assist with the investigation.

St. Paul RCMP and rural crime reduction unit execute search warrant

RCMP Alberta – On June 30, 2018, St Paul RCMP Detachment with the assistance of the Eastern Alberta Rural Crime Reduction Unit (EADRCRU) conducted a search warrant at a residence in Goodfish Lake.

Two males were arrested without incident and a significant quantity of a substance believed to be cocaine was seized, as well as cannabis, various weapons, Canadian currency, and other articles. A stolen quad from Smoky Lake was also recovered on the property. Intelligence gathering and teamwork played a key role in the success of this investigation.

Fatal collision in Sherwood Park

RCMP Alberta – On July 1, 2018 at approximately 12:09 a.m. Strathcona County RCMP and Strathcona County Emergency Services responded to a report of a single vehicle collision on Highway 216 in Sherwood Park, Alberta.  The vehicle was travelling west on Highway 16 and lost control while on the Highway 216 southbound ramp.  The 46-year-old male driver of the vehicle was fatally injured and pronounced deceased at the scene. There were no other occupants in the vehicle.  The name of the deceased is not being released.

Drug fueled southern Alberta crime spree = busted

RCMP Alberta – On July 1, 2018 the RCMP in Cochrane were kept busy with numerous reports of a suspicious male in the Bragg Creek and Redwood Meadows area. Prior to police arrival in area, there were numerous reports of vehicles and property being stolen, as well as one vehicle owner, who interrupted the thief, was assaulted with bear spray. The crime spree started in Priddis, AB at approximately 10:00 a.m and ended with the male suspect being arrested at a gas station in Bragg Creek, AB at approximately 1:30 p.m. All of the vehicles and property that were stolen, have since been recovered and the male who was bear sprayed was not transported to hospital.

Boyle RCMP Investigate Break & Enter, Theft of Tractor, and other property

RCMP Alberta – On July 2, 2018 at approximately 8:30a.m., Boyle RCMP were notified of a break and enter that occurred at the Boyle Rodeo Grounds just east of Boyle, Alberta. Police were able to determine that the offence took place between June 30th 2018 and July 1st 2018. Suspect(s) were able to gain access into buildings on the property making away with various items including; tents, a water heater, and picnic tables. A large red Massey Ferguson 1660 tractor with a DL130 bucket and sprayer attached was also stolen.

RCMP Alberta - On June 23, 2018 Spruce Grove RCMP received a complaint of a male who was shot in the eye by a pellet gun during an attempted robbery. The 20- year- old victim was transported to the hospital and treated for his injuries.

RCMP Alberta - On June 17, 2018 at approximately 4:00 am, RCMP responded to a 24-year-old male that had been badly assaulted on Maple Street at Miller Avenue in Spruce Grove.  After a thorough investigation by General Duty members as well as the Stony Plain/ Spruce Grove General Investigation Section (GIS), three male youths have been charged with Aggravated Assault.

Pursuit ends in Greenview with an arrest, second suspect sought

RCMP Alberta – An adult male is in custody after leading RCMP on a pursuit that ended in the Municipal District of Greenview.  On July 3, 2018 at approximately 03:47 a.m. Grande Prairie RCMP were dispatched to a complaint of break and enter in progress in the area of 72 Avenue and Poplar Drive. Two male suspects entered the residence and assaulted the victim. The suspects then forced the victim into a vehicle before fleeing the area.

Barrhead RCMP arrest two after stolen vehicle reported by public

RCMP Alberta – On June 28, 2018 at approximately 1150 a.m., Barrhead RCMP responded to a tip from the public regarding a suspicious vehicle parked on a range road north of Vega, Alberta.

RCMP Alberta - On July 03, 2018 Elk Point RCMP were notified of a theft that occurred on Range Road 74 near Highway 646 in Elk Point. The theft occurred between Saturday June 30 and Tuesday July 3, 2018. The suspect(s) went to the construction site and took the bulldozer. 

Wood Buffalo RCMP pursuit ends after two arrests

RCMP Alberta – On June 29th, 2018 at approximately 7:00 p.m. Wood Buffalo RCMP responded to a report of a fight in process at a residence in the Timberlea area. Shortly thereafter, another call to police reported two adult males were observed putting another adult male into the trunk of a vehicle. Two adult male suspects were arrested that evening in relation to the incident and face several charges. The adult male victim was not located in the vehicle, however, was quickly located in Fort McMurray by police and taken to hospital for non-life threatening injuries. Police do not believe this was a random act.

Man dead after confrontation with RCMP

RCMP Alberta – Earlier today, an RCMP member attempted to stop a vehicle on Highway 43. As members attempted to approach the vehicle, a confrontation occurred which lead to the discharge of members' firearms.  The adult male suspect who was involved in this incident was later located deceased.
