Red Deer RCMP investigate suspicious package at north detachment

RCMP Alberta – The RCMP Explosives Disposal Unit arrived in Red Deer mid-afternoon today to deal with a suspicious package that had been brought to the north Red Deer RCMP detachment, and destroyed the package without incident at approximately 4 pm.

As a safety precaution, Red Deer RCMP evacuated approximately six residences near the north detachment as well as evacuating staff from the detachment after the package was determined to be suspicious. Evacuated citizens have been allowed to return to their homes and the north detachment will be open to the public as usual tomorrow.

“Public safety is always our first priority, and RCMP appreciate the patience of those residents who were temporarily displaced from their homes while we brought in the EDU specialists to deal with the package,” says Constable Derek Turner of the Red Deer RCMP. “This investigation has now been concluded.”
